Car trunk opens by itself and drains battery to 8 volts and sometimes lower.

Asked by GuruDYP459 Apr 01, 2024 at 01:28 AM about the 2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Premium RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2012 Genesis. Trunk opens at night and drains battery in am. Charged Batt
and works till next opening. Fob's ok and no accidental using them. Battery
new. Pressed the valet switch in glove box to disable trunk opening and
problem goes away. But I miss trunk opening. Sounds to me like something
electrical is causing the problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

Still try wrapping the fobs in aluminum foil and see if the problem stops. If it does then you have a fob going bad. If it doesn’t then you may need the dealer to run a reset on the BCM.

I agree, sounds like a fob problem. You can also remove the battery from the fobs for a few days and see if the problem goes away. Jim
