does losening the crankshafts under the block increase horsepower? i read it from a thread on www.clubhondacivic.com but im
not that sure if it works...i also read that there should be a bolt under the timing belt that if it would be loosen, then there will be
a considerable increase... and one more, how do i change gear timings withoutdyno...what should i do?should i open up my
gearbox?

every thing you read is pure bull, you loosten the crank,it will spin ecery rod bearing in it,as for the bolt on the timeong,it is the belt tenson ajoster.

I don't even know where to begin here there's so much that makes no sense whatsoever......this is basically jibberish. An engine only has one crankshaft, not "crankshafts".... It *may* have two camshafts if it's a 4 cylinder, but it probably only has one. If you loosen anything to do with the crankshaft, you are going to spin all of the bearings and seize your engine in seconds flat. Loosening random bolts will not free up horsepower. By changing gear timing, I'm going to make a leap of imagination here and say that you read up on adjustable cam timing gears....which are for highly tuned engines with a lot of modifications, aftermarket camshafts, etc. You need to bring it to a speed shop or qualified tuner.... I'm sorry but from this post, not to be rude, but you're woefully underqualified to work on the car and I hate to give you even a little bit of advice for Do-It-Yourself horsepower and basically help you to damage something accidentally.

i am not under-qualified, actually no one with considerable knowledge about tuning IS under-qualified. the only thing different is the way different people approach "tuning"...there are many ways and maybe mine is different from yours, besides you might be right about heavily-tuned cars needing special aftermarket parts...but in my case here in our area, we "fabricate" whatever stuff that we can or may use for our cars, as long as we know basics... i agree what i read was crap but hey atleast give the guy who posted it some credit, because we may never know it MIGHT HAVE worked...and it's okay if ever i tried it and sh*t happened because, i can repair whatever damage to my car...i've been doing that for 3 and a half years...

and about the "camshafts", a little typo wouldnt hurt...
Michael its a Honda yes but it is all power to weight and gearing so stfu and just answer questions... if say you loosened your cams it would lessen your hp as it would not be held down all the way to open your valves to their full potential and adjustable cam gears are usually for looks then adjustability but it is a way to retard or advance the timing of your valves.. say if "decked the head" at a machine shop a couple mills at a machine shop you may want to edit the timing of your valves the slightest bit and rotate your distributor to advance the ignition timing blah blah blah.. basically do the camgears for looks and tighten everything down to the exact torque specs
so apparently you dont know your "basics" anyone that knew the "basics" would know what would happen if you loosened the crankshaft bolts.the fact that you had to ask shows you don't know anything
ps the only way you can get any benefit from a crankshaft is changing it for a high performance crank.
i kinda agree with Jonathan just don't f*ck up your car bro
Joseph Anthony answered 12 years ago
basics i mean i know what the crankshaft is for... and yes i got shit from listening to crappy advice but everyone does once in a while...
Joseph Anthony answered 12 years ago
though this case is just kinda like "thinking outside the box"...
Don't listen to these people Joseph, they just don't want you to beat them in a race, loosen half the bolts & toss the others in the trash for weight saving= mad HP BRA!! You got the idea, now get your tools.
Loosen up those bolts and rev it to 10 grand while I watch from a safe distance. LOL
