Dome light

Okay so my dome light is connected and
works, but only when the doors open, when
you switch it to on it goes off or doesn't
work at all!!! What could be a cause?

the switch gives you 3 options ? ? that could be worn out , plus there may be an interior/dashboard light dimmer .
