AWD engages the front for no apparent reason....

2000 Ford Exp. 4X4.  

Set in AWD, at highway speeds (over 50 MPH), when accelerating, in OD, the front  engages, on a hard surface...  why does it do it?

you never run a.4X4 in OD,as for it engagesing in 4X4,it may have a bad switch,you may want to get this checked.
