All audio stopped after driving in high level water

Asked by Mosaati Nov 17, 2015 at 02:39 PM about the 2014 Kia Sorento EX V6 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Alright. Today in my city we had some
sudden record breaking rainfall. I work
about 20 miles from home and there were 2
options, risk it and drive home or be
stranded at work and wait for the water to
clear.
As you can guess I risked it. I drove in some
high level water that I personally thought my
car couldn't handle.
I drive an AWD KIA Sorento V6. The water
level was as high as half way through the
car door. A little water came in but it was
not an issue.
My issue is while I was driving in the deep
water my speakers did some buzzing and
then they stopped. I try to turn on the radio
and there is no sound. Even the beeps that
the dashboard makes when I make a
selection doesn't play anymore.
I'm planning to leave the car for a day to dry.
I'm just asking if the water damaged
something or what should I look for to start
troubleshooting.

Thanks

I think you need to remove the door panels and dry out the inside of the doors and replace all your water logged speakers. If you cannot do that an automobile stereo shop can.

Cheap speakers have paper cones and they probably fell part after getting wet. This is your chance to upgrade your speakers and get a much better sound!

Yah. This would be the worst case scenario answer. But, the beeping does not come from the speakers. So I figured there is something else. The water barely came in mind you. Thank you regardless.

Check fuses as well. You may have gotten water into more than just the doors.

You were right. The fuse was blown. It was a 30A. But as soon as I switched it with a new one the new one blew right away. So, I will vent the hole car for a week to dry everything out and try again.
