Asked by L Nov 12, 2020 at 12:49 PM about the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire SL Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a sunfire and now recently in winter the fan
(I think it's the heater fan) only works on the
fastest speed and yet when I put it on defrost on
any other speed the A/C light still comes on

Sounds like your fan speed (resistor) board needs to be replaced. It sends a different resistance to the blower to regulate the blower speed. Usually located on the outside of the fan shroud under the hood.

The A/C light will automatically come on when you select defrost because the air conditioning system is operating in that position to dehumidify the air before it's blown across the windshield. This will prevent the windshield from fogging over. Hope that helps! Jim
