While you're changing the timing belt be sure to check the water pump…
I bought a whole new timing belt kit with water pump included but while I got it tore down I'm putting all new gaskets and head bolts on it I bought the car with high miles with the original timing belt on it
Good deal-- thats how you avert a nightmare!! Good luck and let me know how it goes!
I was gonna ask if we pull the heads off do they have to be resurfaced or timed
You should always make sure the heads are properly decked before re install
Oh I figured so but wanted someone that's knows what they are talking about tell me if the gaskets don't show any signs of leaking I might just hold up on changing them we looked at them they almost look brand new we figured someone done replaced the heads or the whole motor in the past
Not necessarily, most head gaskets (unless they have blow by) will look new when removed. since you've removed the heads, it a good idea to make sure they have been on a flow bench, and check the valves /springs and replace as necessary.
We haven't took the heads off we gonna put the belt and pulleys on with new water pump and gaskets
You think that will be alright the heads and gaskets look like no leakage or nothing
When this all happen my car just shut off completely I wasn't on the gas it just quit so I don't think it did any internal damage
Now I can say my last car I had was a 2003 Saturn ion my timing chain slipped and pushed a valve right thru the number 3 piston
If the heads look fine then it is likely that everything is good mechanically
Update on car I got everything put on motor top dead center timing marks lined up belt is tight it starts but runs but misses and won't idle
Are you getting a random misfire? Do you have a code reader/ data logger to determine the faults? not idling could something as simple as the MAF sensing fresh air after the metered air, or a bad TPS, or a bad MAF.
OK I unfolded the idle air control valve and it idle but rough then just stuck the valve back on and it died would that be a problem
This car didn't run like this until the timing belt broke it's got me stumped
