2000 Ford Explorer 4x4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have A2000 Ford Explorer four-wheel drive
it recently started making a loud clicking in
the front end. At first I thought it was an axle
and I checked both front axles and that
wasn't it for some reason I put it into 4 wheel
drive thinking that I would make the front
axles turn with the wheels so that it would
damage anything further so I could get a
home. After arriving home I noticed when I
turn and gave it gas it no longer click your
claim I took it out of 4 wheel drive down the
street around the block metal pitching noise
it was making. Anyway I'm thinking that I
probably got a front differential problem the
issue is I have no idea what years will
interchange with my truck. Plus getting the
last correct without the right tools is a no
go..I appreciate any help. Thanks

My guess is a wheel bearing or CV joint. You should not be driving in 4WD on dry roads.
