2004 Hyundai Elantra Shuts off on Freeway

Asked by LuvtoDrive Apr 11, 2012 at 02:21 PM about the 2004 Hyundai Elantra GLS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Manual transmission, no warning, just loses all power and turns off. Will take a while to restart. No fluids noticed on ground and no odors or warnings that this might happen. New battery was installed just a couple months prior because the stereo would just cut out and stop, then the car would not start sometimes. Do you think it could be an alternator or cellenoid problem? I have also seen some advice suggesting fuel pump or filter. There is no rough start or running suggesting a clog....it just shuts off and loses all power. Very dangerous for my son who drives the car.

start with the fuel filter and air filter, then move on to inspecting the battery do a charging test, test the alternator, h/t leads, plugs, it would also help to run some injector cleaner through it, check the operation of the coil pack, undo the coil pack connection clean it and reconnect it. i hope this helps.
