Car starting, then shutting off, then won't start

Asked by Silhouette951 Mar 05, 2019 at 11:41 AM about the 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer ~160k ,miles on it, and this morning I started it up,
it was idling just fine, then a few seconds later it shut off. I was still getting
power to the car, and the engine was trying to start, it just wouldn't turn over. I
tried to jump it, but still wouldn' turn. It was sitting outside in single digit temps
all night if that could possibly affect anything

Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes? You may want to wait till it warms up a little, to do testing.
