Rattling noise from the undercarriage

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT, 4x4 4.0 SOHC, 230,898 miles. I've noticed
a rattling noise coming from the underside of the vehicle. It sounds like a
piece of metal rattling inside a can.
I have owned the vehicle for 2 months now. I originally thought the noise was
tied to the front end squeaking, so I had that worked on. However, the
rattling noise is still there. I can only replicate it when driving. It happens
when you're not accelerating, going over bumps or taking a relatively sharp
turn. Best results when next to a curb, going about 30-40 mph. It happens
whether you're in drive or in neutral. I know it is not coming from the engine,
and I have checked the exhaust, with no luck. The brakes and suspension
seem fine, however I don't exactly know what I'm looking for. Any thoughts
on what could be causing this issue? Thank you in advance!

Mufflers have internals in them. They can detach and rattle. Also look at bushings on your stabilizer bars
