Catalytic converter or converters are very loud

Asked by Btownfee Jan 26, 2019 at 02:11 AM about the 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML 320 Classic 4MATIC

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I’ve priced new setups because I haven’t
been able to distinguish exactly what is
causing the truck to be so loud when driving
it. I’ve heard about deleting the Cats
themselves and running straight pipes
instead.. When pricing all new pipes it was
nearly 1k uninstalled. I usually work on my
own vehicles and was wondering if anyone
had the same problem or possibly a solution
to this loud as V-6.. PS. I live in MS and I’m
not worried about emissions bs

If the engine is too loud change out the muffler to a quieter type. A muffler shop can help you pick one that meets your requirements. Don't remove the cats as the car will never run right.
