2000 Ford explorer 5.0L V8, when I start it up it goes straight to 4000 rpms.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I drive sometimes it will drop
down to 1000 rpms but doesn't
seem to effect the driving of the car.
The engine doesn't seem to sound
any different it does rev up. I did
have a check engine light for a
camshaft position sensor. I changed
that and the light went off. It does
have a crank in the exhaust
manifolds that I'll have to get
replaced. Not sure what it could be
or if the manifolds could do this.

Idle air control valve or possibly stuck throttle position sensor

Best Answer Mark helpful

I had the Idle air control valve changed today and it didn't fix the issue. The mechanic thinks its the egr tube isn't connected and needs replaced. I will probably have the tube and the egr valve replaced to see if this fixes the issue.
