Car stars and dies after a few seconds

when i start it up it dies shortly after i can
start it up after it dies i need to crank it for a
little and it stays on but randomly when
driving it seems to have a lag/sputter in
power dont know if that is the same issue a
little direction would be much appreciated
before i start replacing half my car 199k

Check the fuel filter,if it is ok ,have the fuel pressure checked,may be bad fuel pump.

bad connection fuel pump relay bend pins a little and put back in socket the relay gets hot well driving and weakens the relay socket by bending pins make relay tighter in socket no more bad connection, this happen to me, fuel pump relay is under engine hood in fuse box.
