my 2016 hyundia elantra is having an issue with the oil light flickering after
idling , when driving for a short period the engine light and battery lights come
on and it dies, makes a strange noise. am able to start up immediately after
stalling and drive for 5 min. before it happens again. ive changed the oil
pressure sensor....could it be the oil pump?

Sounds like low oil pressure. Not good. Is this a high mile car?

I have the same problem with my 2014 Elantra. Changing the oil and the oil pressure sensor fixed the problem for about 10 months. Problem is back now, and my research is showing that the model of engine used from 2011-2017 in the Elantra is basically defective... Hyundai will replace the engine but I was told I needed to pay for the diagnostic (~$150-400) and it is covered if you have a record of oil changes every 12,000km or 12 months.

I believe the issue is the timing chain tensioner. It is hydraulic and can leak severely enough at idle to cause the light to flicker. Noticing the clicking noise and light illuminating at the same time was the clue.. When there is enough slack it throws the timing off causing that wierd noise and the grind is the timing chain hitting the guide rails. At kear that is what I think So its alot of work but we will see
