Engine light on

Asked by Lannay May 08, 2016 at 03:26 PM about the 2002 Hyundai Sonata V6 GL FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the gas cap and had a friend to clear
codes it was gas cap and O2 sensor bank 1.  This
is an 2002 sonata.  After purchasing the gas cap at
autozone and clearing the codes a week and a half
later the check engine light has came on again
with a code of P0442 small leak again but no code
for o2 sensor.  Any suggestions?

The EVAP code is for a small leak in the HC return lines or canisters from the fuel tank some are are easy to locate and other might require smoke application. The 02 sensor still probably needs to be changed after 14 years they become slow and cause fuel ratio target 14.7 hard to hit. A worthy vehicle should have them the UP streams 02(s) changed every 80,000. Regards
