I heard a sound underneath my car like i kicked up a stone sometime after I
noticed shifting issue which seems like slippage when below 40mph . At full
highway speed  no problem . Issue seems  intermittent . What could be the
cause of this sudden problem ?

Maybe the noise caused a leak or it is something internal to the transmission broke. Time to get the car in the air for a physical inspection from underneath, and also a test drive by a mechanic or trans expert to determine the cause.
