Red light beside ignition

I have a mazda 6 with a non remote start.  Their is
an nti theft red car that blinks on the dash.  I am
familiar with that button but what is the red light
beside my ignition that illuminates.  Is it supposed
to be illuminated or illuminate then go off?

It's supposed to be illuminated to warn would be thieves that the vehicle has a security system. Especially at night. Hope that helps! Jim
