Hard time starting after replacing thermostat

Asked by Guru9H3J9M Nov 29, 2021 at 06:48 PM about the 2008 Mazda MAZDA3 GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 2008 mazda 3 and recently put in a thermostat and now the car is
having a hard time starting.  Need to pump the gas and rev really hard for the
car to sputter.  Only occurs when car is cold or hasn't been running for over 3
hours.

Is all the wiring back where it was ? Did you break something ? A sensor may be near the thermostat housing . And you're not pumping any gas , sounds like the coolant sensor is not hooked up or broken .

There's a chance the coolant temp. sensor decided to quit at the same time by pure coincidence .
