What king of engine am i limited to, when it comes to Mazda Protegé5 2002

Im looking for a new engine for my mazda
protege5 2002. Pretty sure it has a 2.0 engine.
My engine is supposedly blown, but I dont
know enough about cars to able to tell. The
mechanics barely looked at it. I need a new
engine what kind of engine can i put in this
make and model

You'll want to replace the engine with the exact engine that is in there now to save on costs. They are trending around $800 on average shipped to your house. Then you will have to pay for installation. Figure another $1000 to $1500 to remove the old, and install the new and any new parts. The reason the mechanics barely looked at it, is the car is worth no more than $1K. Do you want to go through all this trouble and spend $2500 or more fixing it and the most you can get for it if you have to sell it, right after you fixed it is $1500? Maybe you want to look for something newer?
