New starter has lead, old starter did not. Starter won't engage flywheel

I purchased a new starter for my ranger.  The new starter has a lead that
needs to be stretched the old one did not.  The starter wont engage the
flywheel bc I have nowhere to attach the lead. The starter I had before is no
longer available and I'm at a loss.

I assume all you have to do is extend the wire. Your local auto parts store will have the connectors and wire to do the job.
