68 Firebird

Asked by GonzoFire Sep 16, 2018 at 02:36 PM about the 1968 Pontiac Firebird Coupe

Question type: General

Car started last weekend with new battery after sitting for a couple of years.
Today it is turning over like a champ but will not start.  Does not smell flooded.
Anu ideas what could have gone wrong? Any ideas of things to check?

I would check for spark and fuel at the carb. Most likely the fuel system is gummed up which may mean a carburetor rebuild and dropping the tank for cleaning.

Crankshaft position sensor? Not for another 30 years or so. You can check the ignition timing.

Thanks to both. How do I check for the spark and fuel at the carb? and can I apply a de-gum agent? Mark

Check for humidity in the distributor, dry it out or use ignition spray from auto parts store
