Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2000 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6, 167,xxx miles, dripping above and behind oil filter.  Loses about a half quart every 5,000 miles using 5W30 Mobil One. Does the oil filter housing separate from the block and/or have a gasket that may be leaking?

There is a gasket that connects it to the housing. Spin it as tight as you can get with your hands, and then use a oil filter wrench and turn it 1/2 to a full turn.

Not talking about the actual oil filter gasket. I'm trying to find out if the oil filter housing is attached to the block by bolts or is it machined into the block...if it is attached to the block by bolts, there may be a gasket that needs replacing, thus causing the oil leak. But hey, thanx for taking the time to reply.
