Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck has new fuel pump new fuel filter new
distributor new cap new rotor new wires new plugs
truck ran good except for a surge when using
cruise control on a level highway fuel pressure was
still low but ran that way for awhile today it
stuttered and died on the highway wouldn't crank
when it finally did crank it would stumble and pop
and die I slowly got it to the shop I work at up the
road and replaced the spider injection and fuel
pressure regulator it does have better pressure
now if I hit the pressure relief valve it sprays up
some which it did not before but it will not crank
you can hear a slight backfire and its dragging my
starter I pulled the number one plug and it is
getting fire. I sprayed some starting fluid in the
intake and it blew up and busted the throttle body
cover so I will be replacing that tmmrw but I am
clueless on what step to take next

There sounds like there is still some sort of fuel issue. Double check the fuel pressure, it should be 56 to 63 lbs at the Schrader Valve. Was the spider injection replaced as an assembly? And another thing to check would be the firing order, 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. And is there anyway that the fuel injectors got put into the wrong ports?

I am about to check the fuel pressure again spider was installed as a whole assy. When I took the old one out they had the number 2 & 4 injectors crossed and 6 & 8 injectors crossed. So I put it back together and it wasn't starting so I looked at the harness and you can see that someone has repaired the wires before so I opened it back up and put the injectors back in the way they were before. It was running good at one point so I'm pretty sure they just mixed up the injector wires when repaired

Those numbers correspond to the cylinder it goes into, and as a assembly you can't get the wires crossed. I'm sure you know that. See what you can find.

Yes I know that part. What I'm talking about is the wiring harness that plugs into it has been spliced and repaired and when I took it apart the original injection was already crossed in the ports but it was running fine like that. If it was wrong the truck wouldn't have been running good would it

OK so I have it put back tgeter the way I took it apart I'm going to check the codes and fuel pressure next would the crankshaft position sensor go bad but still have a spark

I don't think so. But it would show up in the codes if the crankshaft sensor is bad.

OMG, When are you people going to learn that "STARTING FLUID" is for starting Diesel engines when it's cold temps and only a quick spray. I have seen people use it like it was gas in a spray can spraying for 4 or 5 seconds. One 1 second spray is enough to fire about 25 cylinders. Not only can you blow a parts your intake manifold and throttle body/ carburetor. You can get burned very badly if it backfires and Coughs all that Ether back out at you. I saw it happen. Poor guy got second degree burns to his head chest and arms. STOP USING STARTING FLUID ON GASOLINE ENGINES. Use spray carb cleaner
