Went thru 3 new distributors same thing

I have a 1985 Chevy c10 350, it starts right
up, drive about 1 mile it dies, wait a minute
it starts up same thing happens. I've put 3
new HEI distributors in it real run great for
approximately 15 miles or so then it starts
dying, also if I drive slow stay in 2 gear it
keeps running

When it quits, and won't restart check to see if you have any power going to the ignition system.

Did you put the dielectric/heat transfer compound on the back of your HEI module to help transfer the heat, it usually comes with the unit, if new in the box.

Check to see if it has the ground strap that goes to the coil from the center terminal. Sometimes people that are not aware will leave this piece out. Or loose wire going to the distributor. Especially if the clip that holds it on the distributor has been broken.
