I have a 2000 Ford Ranger, manual transmission. In 4th gear and overdrive the engine sputters and chugs when excelerating or going uphill. Spark plugs, wires, and air filter are all fine. Whats wrong

Sounds like maybe the motor has lower compression in 1 or more cylinders. You notice it more in 4th an 5th gear because those gears are cruising gears. I had a 95 ford ranger that did the same thing.
How do you clean/fix the cylinders? I have the same issue.
