wont fire tries to start

changed head gaskets on 97 chevy 350 put distributor back in the same place  (rotor aiming the same direction) seems like I am one tooth off on the timing--what should I do

Did you top dead the motor before stabbing the distribution when I had timing problems I had to get a scanner that did timing it helped timing it easy impossible to get it timed with a timing light but if it's running poor and you don't get a code for timing pull the timing cover and see if it skipped a tooth if it did get the timing set because your chain can be stretched
