Gag gauge

Just replaced the fuel pump in my 96
Chevrolet 1500 ..now my gas gauge isn't
working rite... Can anyone help me please.. It
jumps to full then when I cut it off it goes to
half a tank

Since you messed with the fuel pump, I suspect a problem with the sending unit, which means dropping the tank again to get at it, or take the box off, or cut a hole in the floor in the bed over the gas tank.
