low idle missing issues

Asked by rdpugh1966 Mar 24, 2016 at 01:11 AM about the 1994 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Cheyenne Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have replaced every sensor in and near my
throttle body. When I pulled my old plugs
some looked burnt and some looked gas
fouled. The inside of the distributor showed
signs of acid and rust. Someone said replace
the ignition control module. Check engine
light comes on but goes off once reved up.

But curious, whats the problem. Could this all be from being in car for years? Why not replace them than check for issues? Or are there issues now?

Sorry I missed 'low idle missing'. But still question I ask is why not replace these worn(?) things , then c if missing stops?

It idles real low and dies. Oil pressure goes down to almost 15psi. Then battery shows 11 volts. Sprayed WD 40 onto corrodeed distributor area and dryed with soft cloth. I can only think of two things I have not eliminated. That is alternator and ignition control module. I also think the coil could be bad. Does anyone know how to bring this truck back? This truck just started running like this a month ago.

Take vehicle to parts store like auto zone and have them scan the computer to see what codes are coming up. Will eliminate a lot of guessing on what's wrong with vehicle.

Most parts stores will not have the capability to scan this computer as it is a OBD1 in that vehicle, so start by taking the Ignition Control Module out of the distributor, and the coil, then have them tested at Auto Zone. May want to replace the cap & rotor. If no problems there next would be to check the fuel pressure. It should be 9 to 13 lbs. And if not, there would be a problem with the fuel pump, or the fuel regulator in the TBI.
