Try some general maintenance things first. Check air filter and replace if necessary, replace fuel filter if have not done so in a while, add some Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner to gas tank use middle grade or the high octane gas every now and then this will help stop the gum and carbon build up in engine.

Also check for vacuum leaks along the intake manifold gasket, and under the throttle body. Also check the EGR valve to make sure it is clean and closing, not stuck open.
