Rear end assembly swap

Asked by KingCobra63 Aug 23, 2019 at 07:30 PM about the 1993 Chevrolet C/K 1500 WT LB RWD

Question type: Car Customization

I'm doing a power train swap for a hot rod truck. Friend wants
to use the rear of 1988 IROC to handle the 454 he is going to
use. This would also convert to drum to disc brakes and 15 to
16 inch wheels. Possible? Or is he over thinking?

first make sure there won't be any spline issues between driveshaft/rear end, that the length works out, and check the rear end gearing works for what you need/want. Then make sure you deal with the proportioning valve, since you are upgrading to discs from drum brakes, you don't want to lock up the rear end when you tap on the brakes.

I have my doubts this rear axle will handle the 454 torque. You need a 12 bolt or a Ford 9", not the small block 10 bolt from the IROC.
