1995 Chevy 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My son has a 93 chevy 1500. It needed a new
transmission so we replaces it for him. A few days
later he said it felt like it didn't have much power
and he was having some trouble with steep hills. A
few days ago he was stuck on the side of the road.
We went to get him and the truck ran and sounded
fine in park. When you put it in gear it sounds like
it's cutting and spitting. Codes said ignition module
so we changed it out and same problem. No codes
showing then. We changed out the timing chain
and reset time. Still the same problem. Anyone
have any idea what problem may be?

I'd first put a vacuum gauge on it then do a compression test to make sure it's not a mechanical issue

Check see if filter to carb is stopped up. When were plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor replaced. Different truck same issues needed items mentioned to fix.

Spitting & etc is not usually mechanical. It is usually failed plugs, poor plug wires, distributor cap & rotor.

Does your sons truck have catilatic converter on exhaust system? If stopped up will lose power to engine by stalling. Rather believe it's the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap& rotor.

We just did plugs but wouldn't it still have the same issues if it were in park and when it is in drive? Runs and sounds fine even when you press on the gas when it's in park. As soon as you put it in drive is when the issue starts. Husband thought something with timing isnt right...pickup coil for example is his next direction...maybe the cause??
