Engine stall and backfire

Asked by Roger Mar 08, 2016 at 01:01 PM about the 1992 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab 4WD

My 350 vortec 1992 starts up on, idles rough on all
8 cylinders but when I try to drive off or rev it up, it
will pop through the tbi, but if I put my foot in it
hard, it revs . When I try to drive of normal it with
pop, , sputter, and start to blow black smoke
(loading up). But if I but! For in it hard it will break
the rear wheels lose and fun beautiful until I ease ,
than runs rough. New cap, rotor, plugs, wires. Any
ideas?  Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!

They did not make a 8 cylinder Vortec motor until 1996. So what is it you have? I see you mention a TBI, is that what you have?

Sounds like you don’t have a Vortec engine unless it been replaced, Eather way back fire as you decribe is caused by the timing being off possible you moved it when replacing cap and router. Did you replace roder Check timing and make sure got cap on securely. One more possibility and very likely you have crossed a couple plug wires easy to do . Tag each end of plug wires with a small piece of tape and number them probley find 2 wires are on wrong plug . 1357-2468 firing order v-8 Chevy numerals are on cap end.
