No heat and overheating engine

Asked by Levty7 Jan 26, 2020 at 01:34 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet C/K 1500 LS Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: General

So I went to start my truck and warm it up one
day but my heat wasn’t blowing hot air just
cold air. I check my coolant/antifreeze levels
and they were normal. I shut the truck off and
restarted it and the heat worked and drove
fine for the day. The next day same thing no
heat and now my truck is starting to overheat.
I changed the thermostat but still no luck as
the heat will kick on for maybe 20 seconds
then the truck temp goes back to normal.
Until it starts to blow cold air then the truck
starts to over heat again. Any idea. Thanks!

My ‘ 88 Chevy truck C/K 1500 also 4-wheel drive has 200,000 mi. I recently had a leak on the passenger-side floor. I had to replace the small radiator in the heater.

I’m thinking thermostat gota be, try another one could have got wrong temp. Heater core leaking won’t run engine hot if full of coolant. Belt ain’t slipping is it? If so would explain your problems . Check belt tension!!! Let me know what you find out about this prob.
