Truck won’t idle I’ve done everything

Asked by Gavin Nov 18, 2020 at 08:45 PM about the 1989 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1989 k1500 5speed 4x4 and it won’t idle
after 30 seconds if I don’t give gas. I have replaced
tps, map, iac, egr and even the ecm but used old
prom chip from other ecm I can’t find the right one.
If I unplug the wire that runs truck in icm spark
control it runs fine but when the PCM tries to run it
it kills it.

Sounds like an ignition timing problem. Use a timing light to check the ignition timing. Is your check engine light or service engine soon light on? If so, what codes do you have? Do you have a knock sensor code? Before you loosen the distributor retaining bolt try to move the distributor. Is it loose? You were correct by transferring the original PROM to the new ECM. That's what you were supposed to do. Hope that helps! Jim
