Truck won’t start

So I have a 96 Chevy k1500. Just replaced the
batter and the starter and the alternator is newer.
With the old starter still in we could tap it and it’d
start. It’d take a minute but it’d start. Now with the
new one all it does is click. Just bought the truck
so I’m not entirely sure what to do about it.

Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Note the starter wiring diagram. See the starter relay, pull it, on the switch side of relay, the switch side is that line with arrowhead, right side of relay in diagram, use a jumper wire between those cavities. The top terminal in diagram on switch side, is hot all the time and fuse protected, see the fuse.The starter motor should crank the engine. You don't need to use key. If you try that, make sure transmission is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. If it cranks with jumper, the problem should be on control side of relay, left side in diagram.
