MPG while towing
Asked by GMCsad Jan 02, 2019 at 04:55 PM about the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT Crew Cab 4WD
Question type: Car Customization
I have a 2017 GMC Sierra, my mileage is great when I'm not towing, @70 MPH
I get 23.3 MPG. When towing a Winnebago Minnie duel axle, I get 9 MPG.
Anything I can do to improve mpg? I thought maybe and improved load springs
or air wing to cut down on drag.

Slow down and turn off the OD.
I haul a 2018 Winabago minnie 3500lbs. I normally drive 65mph when towing. My GMC engine size is the 5.2L. I'm sure I need a bigger engine. Just trying to decide if its worth the cost to either buy another truck or find some easier, cheaper means, to improve the gas mileage. Thank you for answering my questions.
3,500 pounds is nothing for most full sized pickups. I can tow a 10,000 pound triple axle trailer and get better MPG than 9 but I go 55 to 60 and drive with OD off most of the time.
