Lost all keys to 2000 ford windstar, will used ignition and key work

Asked by Guru7TXY2 Jun 07, 2020 at 06:48 PM about the 2000 Ford Windstar LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I lost all keys to 2000 Ford Windstar. It's too old to
have some cut. Dealer said I have to get a new
ignition and jeys, then have them programmed.
Plus it'll have to be flatbed towed to the dealer. If I
get a used ignition with keys from a junk yard, will
it start, or do I still have to have it programned
again at the dealer?

Your dealer is your best bet. A used lock and key won't do anything.

You STILL have to have it programmed. The chip in the key will not match what the anti theft system is programmed for.

I would save yourself the trouble of replacing the lock cylinder since there is nothing actually wrong with that, and just go and get a new key cut and programmed for the vehicle. There are mobile locksmiths who can come to you and do that in your driveway.
