Nissan Sentra 2017 SV--Brakes Grinding only when AC is on

Asked by GuruDW5JFX Apr 25, 2024 at 04:11 PM about the 2017 Nissan Sentra SV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2017 Nissan Sentra SV with approx 90k miles. My brakes grind
terribly, but ONLY when I have the air conditioning on. There is no noise
without the ac on or when I use the heater. The noise decreases slightly if I
turn off the recirculation air button.

I have seen this exact question several times via a Google search, but there
is no specific answer. The general consensus is to check and update all of
the brake parts. I have a hard time believing the issue is just with the breaks
considering it only makes the noise when the air conditioning is on.

Any ideas before I take it to the shop for an expensive fix?

Thank you!

My guess is that what you're hearing is the ABS pump and modulator assembly kicking on when it shouldn't because of an electrical problem. We have a '13 Nissan Frontier at my job that does that. Sounds like the brakes are grinding but it's actually the ABS kicking in. Jim

I appreciate the response I received concerning my brake noise. Although I still think it is somehow connected to the AC, I went ahead and got new brake pads. The grinding noise has stopped. I did not use the AC over the weekend, so I will let you know if it stays up again.

You're welcome, glad to help. Yes, please let us know what happens with the A/C on and the new pads. Jim
