Probably a tune up issue. Check the resistance of the spark plug wires, the resistance differs by the length of the wire, so many ohms per foot. Could be resulting in plugs not firing. Also check the resistance between the banks on the ignition coil. If not up to spec, replace. The specs are available on the net. You'll need a multi meter. Check first before throwing money at the problem by purchasing parts. My 99 V6 was doing the same thing. A tune-up with motorcraft parts solved the problem. Remember, the car sixteen years old.
