2017 Pilot multiple issues

Asked by Kevin Apr 12, 2023 at 11:32 AM about the 2017 Honda Pilot Touring

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We've had issues with our 2017 Pilot Touring for about a year; it started with Emissions control warnings and code P2422 (EVAP canister vent shut valve stuck closed), there is a known issue with this code requiring a very expensive retrofit of a filter canister that runs about $1700; I replaced the Canister Vent Valve with a new Honda OEM part and we got the same code again within days; in addition, we are receiving all kinds of collision mitigation systems warnings, electric power steering warnings, etc. that all Including the P2422) seem utterly unrelated.  If I scan for codes, i only get the P2422; our local Honda dealer will not even CONSIDER looking into ECM issues unless we pay for the vent valve canister filter kit, but I feel like that issue is spurious since the valve was replaced and the TSB from Honda (bulletin 20-056) indicates the kit is needed if the vent line is blocked or full of debris - mine had a little bit of dust in it, but was certainly not blocked.  The vent valve that was replaced was not stuck, either.  I'm losing my mind on this one, we're thinking of getting rid of it but I figure I 'll get clobbered trading it in with a bunch of DTC's flashing up on the driver info center.  Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Any time you have an EVAP code the best course of action is a smoke test. An EVAP system leak can be so small it can't be seen with the naked eye. As for the other issues it sounds like a bad BCM (Body Control Module). If the vent valve had been stuck closed you'd have problems at the gas pump with the pump nozzle repeatedly shutting off when you're trying to refuel. Hope that helps! Jim
