For the 2017 Lexus RX 450H AWD version: is it truly AWD, or is it something similar to AWD with the third motor? What does the 3rd motor do? Does it truly perform as an AWD in snow?

The 450h AWD has no driveshaft from the gas engine to the rear wheels. The rear wheels are electric only, but with enough power/torque that they are adequately driven at low speeds where AWD matters.

Actually AWD can matter at high speeds too but at least this setup with help get you through the snow.
