saving energy

Asked by GuruBYCD4 Dec 13, 2018 at 06:22 PM about the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime Premium

Question type: General

My husband turns off our 2017 Prius Prime at stop lights even though it is in
battery mode. Does this help save energy or is it actually putting wear on some
part of the car like the starter system?

Not using energy clearly saves energy. I can't imagine it is significant though.

Let me tell you about my little trick to get more distance out of my electricity. Electric cars will consume the most power when accelerating from a stop position. It does not matter what brand of electric vehicle you own. Taking off from a stop position at a light uses the most power. In the Prius prime, we have the luxury of using gas to take off from a stoplight, and when you get to your desired speed, I switch back to electric.
