Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I recently acquired an Austin-Healey 3000 Mki and looking for someone to
help me keep it in shape and running. Ideally, want someone with prior
experience of working on this (or similar) cars.

I bought a 1961 AH 3000 when I graduated from high school- 1967- a great car, fast, beautiful- I paid $800- those were the good old days- look, your car is quite valuable and you must find a garage that specializes in classic cars- there must be one around you, possibly a garage that even specializes in old British cars- do not let anyone who is not qualified even open the hood- this is a very basic machine and they are quite easy to work on, but since it is so valuable, you must find someone you can trust to do the work correctly- for example, the engine and drivetrain are very basic, rugged, and conventional- but there are quirks, like the shock absorbers- and of course the Lucas fuel pump is not original by this point (pun intended)- so it should be replaced with something which works well with that car- etc. etc. good luck- cool car!!!
I appreciate your response - and think I agree with everything you said. I can't help but observe that started down my classic car adventure thanks to the MG. And, most recently, thought long and hard about moving to the MGA before finding a unique opportunity for my AH. Your car is gorgeous! I wish you many long and winding drives.
Go to the Austin Healy club web site and use their forum to find a reliable mechanic. http://www.healeyclub.org/
The big Healey is light years beyond an MG- that car should run at 100 mph no problem- and be stable and comfy at that speed- that is how yow you want to set it up- but before you try for the century mark, make sure your wheels and tires are perfect- my car came with Michelin radials back in the day but since they had tubes, it only took one broken spoke to puncture the tube- it happened a few times with sometimes exciting results lol-
Thanks to everyone. This has been great! I very much appreciate the feedback and shared passion. And you correct, the AH is a strong leap beyond the MG - and I'm loving it. And that isn't meant as a slight to the MGB at all. It is a lovely car.
Are you sure? I assumed my next stop was an Austin Martin!
Hope you meant Aston-Martin! Austin was a low end car and I never heard of a Martin?
