I have a ticking noise coming from my motor.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a ticking noise coming from my motor. I
thought that it may be the lifters.  I was told today
that the ticking is coming from the bottom of my
motor and to stop using cheap gas and use 93.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a noise coming from the bottom of the engine it might be a bad rod bearing but they make more of a thumping sound than a ticking noise. How is your oil pressure and how many miles on the engine?

I've repaired 6 of those so far . It turns out the rod bearings are the cause and because of the acoustics of the engine the first one I had brought to me had me near insane as I found a weak lifter ,changed them ,to no avail .Jeep claimed it was the rocker tunes ,changed them again still ticking . I decided that the valve train couldn't have been the culprit even tho anyone with 20 plus years experience as a technician would have sworn it was a lifter .lol .I pulled the pan on a hunch amd found no. 3 rod bearing was bad .replaced all the bearings (standard ) and was glad to see that jeep leave . Have done 5 others since then ,took alot less time to repair .lol .and for alot less money ..Good luck

If the a rod bearing is bad it is probably time for a new engine or a new car. If you keep driving it you will throw a rod through the side of the engine.
