2003 Jeep Liberty 3.7L V6 Check Engine Light

Asked by Guru9P3DF Jul 15, 2017 at 06:05 PM about the 2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I checked the the engine light codes on my 2003 Jeep Liberty 3.7L V6,
because vehicle was jerking, by turning ignition on/off 3 times without
starting and P code 0305 displayed (firing order number 5 was not working
so i took coil off while vehicle was running and no change).  So it had been a
while since I changed all my spark plugs and coils so I did that.  Jeep ran
good for about 100 miles the light came on and vehicle began to jerk again.
So I took it to Autozone and they asked me did I have the check engine reset
after installing plugs and coils. I said no, so they went out and reset the
engine light and the misfire went away.  So is it standard procedure to reset
check engine light after installing parts causing vehicle to misfire?

My 2003 jeep liberty goes into limp mode after 100 miles as well. It shows a random misfire code but when I restart the car it runs great for another 100 miles. I have replaced the plugs, coils, and Engine control module. It continues to do the same thing goes into limp mode every 100 miles. I am in the process of replacing the 4 oxygen sensors and if that does not work I may replace the full injectors. Any other solutions are greatly appreciated.

I replaced the Sensors on my exhaust and the engine light continues to light up. I am now going to focus on my fuel injectors. The car continues to run great until it goes into limp mode. Then I just turn it off and restart it and it runs great immediately. Any other ideas for a solution would be very helpful and appreciated.

My 2003 Liberty was doing the same. The shop said it was an exhaust valve and I needed new heads. I used old time cure.I sprayed the intake with water while running the engine.I used about a pint of water in a sprayer. Fixed the problem, been a year no codes run great 226000 miles
