Will a stripped timing belt bend valves?

Asked by Nojeeptoday Jun 07, 2020 at 02:15 PM about the 2003 Jeep Wrangler SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Timing belt stripped at red light with engine
at idle. I have a 2003 tj with 2.4 l engine. One
source says this Chrysler engine is not an
interference engine . If this is true there
should be no valve damage. However as I see
the cam gears they appear 180° out of sinc
meaning they have slipped time as well.
What's your best guess on valve damage ?
Absolutely or maybe not since it was at idle
speed. Lots of opinions on whether they will
hit each other n bend.

The internet says it is interference. You can put a timing belt back on it and do a compression test to check the valves.
