i turn on but it wont stay on what could be wrong with it

i turn the car on but it turn off ones i take my foot of the gas

Check air filter and clean throttle body replace fuel filter if have not done so in a while add fuel injector cleaner to gas tank and use middle grade or high test gas to help clean out the gum and carbon build up.
