replacing brake lights

Got the right side done, when I go to the left one (drivers side) the door is in the way of the screws, no matter which way I look at it, it seems like I will need a professional? AM I missing another step? remove door?

the lift gate goes up not side to side, are you sure you have a jeep liberty
