I have a 61 ford falcon 170cc engine how can I tell now the tank is out how many gallons it holds. And or if a 14or 16 gallon is interchangeable?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My gas tank was removed and rust was found. Once taken to have it boiled
out at local radiator shop, I was informed and saw rust throughout. Now I
believe I have the 16 gal but not sure.

Information on Rockauto.com shows your original tank is 14 gallons. A 14 gallon OEM tank is $249, BUT you can go with a 16 gallon tank for $99 IF you replace the sending unit which can't cost very much. Also, I have patched small holes in gas tanks with Bondo and it held for many years if you do a meticulous job and leave it a few days to cure up hard. Gas won't touch it. Anyway, when I was young, my Dad had a 1961 Falcon wagon, three speed standard, and the tiny 144 cu in six cylinder engine. Travelling out West in the desert, we got 33 MPG going 85 MPH all day long! (No A/C....Lol.)
